DIY Coconut and Citrus Sugar Scrub

Even with the winter finally looking to be behind us, the prospect of baring my legs is a scary one.  I mean they have been under wraps for months!  When it comes to skin care, I try my upmost to use products that have at least 90% natural ingredients as I don't really like the idea of washing myself in a load of chemicals I can't even pronounce.  After a little research I decided to make a homemade body scrub that would exfoliate, moisturise, smell good and be 100% natural.

What you will need:
5-6 tbsp unrefined demerara sugar
2-3 tbsp olive oil
1 heaped tbsp coconut oil
10 drops grapefruit essential oil
10 drops lemon essential oil
1 vitamin E capsule (optional)
1 sterile jar (mine was 25ml capacity)

You need to melt the coconut oil in a microwave which will only take a minute or so, then mix that with the olive oil.  Pop the vitamin E capsule and mix that in, then add the essential oils.

Then add the sugar and stir until the sugar is completely coated.  Transfer into your jar and it is ready to use!  Simple.

You can decorate your jar with pretty ribbon and string.  I made my label by cutting out a piece of brown paper, writing the name using a waterproof pen and then attaching it using a layer of pva glue on the back of the paper, then another thin layer over the top to smooth it down (it will not stay attached if it gets very wet as pva is water soluble).  As well as for yourself, this scrub makes a lovely little handmade gift.

After using this, my legs feel really smooth and moisturised and so much cheaper than buying scrubs from the shops, plus completely natural.  Do remember not to use this on your face as the sugar is too abrasive for its delicate skin.  The scent of the citrus has really got me in a summery mood, just need the weather to cooperate now!
