A Woodland Wander

Hello!  Yes, I am still alive and I'm sorry for the brief blogging hiatus.  The bug I'd been fighting off for the past couple of weeks finally got the better of me and put me out of action for two days.  I also saw my friend before she left the country for nine months, had work and then my internet then died this weekend, so all in all, not the best conditions for blogging. The dodgy wifi has now been fixed and I can finally share with you the beautiful walk we went on whilst the weather was good on Sunday.

We started our walk through woods alongside a stream which occasionally fell away into short, noisy waterfalls. As we continued along the path, the woodland thickened, the floor became a deep carpet of orange and the air became muggy as we entered a small, but steep-sided valley.  Amongst the rotting leaves and logs were plants that were holding on just that little bit longer before winter takes hold.  Also growing out of the fallen branches was a beautiful array of fungi.

As the path climbed up the side of the valley, we left the woods for fields which looked down to a wonderful view of the city.  We were also happily surprised to stumble across an alpaca farm and a group of rather spectacularly large chickens.

We made our way back down the hill to the woods where we began and took a short sit on a bench in the sun, a chance to make the most of feeling warm outside.  We fed the ducks by a pond filled with grand bulrushes and the birds quickly decided that it was far more efficient to come to us rather than to wait for the food to be thrown to them.

This was such a perfect way to spend a Sunday morning and if weather permitted, it would be the way I'd like to spend each one every week.

  3. I love just strolling through nature and admiring everything it has to offer :) Your pictures are amazing and really capture the details of a "woodland wander". As a college student in a city, trapped in a dorm room, I have to say thanks for sharing - it's so refreshing to see so much green!
