Bakewell Christmas Market

I recently had an afternoon to myself, so decided to spend a rather lovely few hours mooching through the stalls of the Bakewell Christmas Market.  On arrival I was hit by wonderful smells of mulled cider and sweet cakes which wafted through the air, along with the sounds of Christmas carols and people chattering.  There were stalls selling a whole variety of goods, from wreaths to artisan chocolates and Christmas stockings to mistletoe.

After perusing the stalls I went for a walk further into town where I discovered two reindeer, next to a tall Christmas tree, in front of which a group of carollers congregated and began carolling.  It was a beautiful, perfectly festive moment.

After the singers finished and moved on to their next destination, I took a walk along the brook back into town towards the river.  I very happily and excitedly came across a whole host of birds of prey, including some rather fine looking owls.

Whilst I had arrived in Bakewell on my own, it didn't last for long once I sat down by the river with my lunch...

I can't seem to get enough of Christmas markets this year.  I just love the more relaxed vibe of people enjoying their time shopping at a much slower pace, compared with that of shopping centres.  I found the whole experience pretty inspiring and would love to maybe apply for a stall to sell my illustrations next year!  If you'd like to see more of Bakewell, you can check out my post from the summer.
