Peddler Night Market

On Friday night I went to the Peddler Night Market in Sheffield.  It was the third one to be held, but the first that I had attended and I absolutely loved it!  You hear about all sorts of street food events happening in the capital, so it was great to be able to go to one with such a great selection of vendors here in the north.

The market consisted of street food and drink, local artists and music.  We began our night with drinks from The Hop Box, a horse box converted into a mobile bar, selling craft beer and cider.

Next came the difficult task of making a decision as to what food to go for.  Our choices were everything from burgers to fish and chips, dosa to grilled cheese.  I was impressed with the level of detail on many of the trailers, especially The Hip Hop Chip Shop, which was made to look like a giant boom box.

I ended up gravitating towards Smoqued and opting for oak smoked pulled pork shoulder, tomatillo salsa, butternut slaw and 'smoqued' BBQ sauce on a toasted brioche bun.  It was totally delicious.

Along with the food and drink being sold outside, there was an indoor area.  There were stalls selling a variety of artworks and crafts, delicious looking cocktails and a bakery.  Gorgeous wreaths, plants and strings of lights were hung above the rows of tables and chairs, a perfect contrast to the industrial setting.

I loved that two of my ultimate favourite things, food and art, were brought together for one event.

The market ran from 5 - 10:30 and the couple of hours that I was there, there was a constant stream of people and a really chilled, but buzzing atmosphere.   It was a brilliant alternative to an average Friday night out, although to be honest, anything food-related is a winner to me regardless!

The market also ran on the Saturday from 2 - 10:30 and I really wish I could have gone twice as there were some different vendors and a live acoustic set.

The next market will be held in May, so if you're local to Sheffield you should totally follow Peddler on Twitter or Facebook to be kept up to date.  I know I will most definitely be attending again.
