Wednesday Words #5

I am a feminist.  It is something of incredible importance to me and with International Women's Day having just past last Sunday, I felt inspired to share what feminism means to me.

Feminism is equal rights and opportunities for both women and men.  To me that seems obvious, but some people seem to get confused or are scared by labelling themselves.  If you believe it, be brave enough to identify as it.

Feminism is the choice to do what you want with your body.  You can wear pink and glitter, have long hair and fake tan and be a feminist, just as you can wear trousers and trainers, have body hair and not wear make-up and be a feminist.  Feminism isn't an image.

Feminism is not and never has been the hatred of men.  You can be a man and be a feminist; men can believe that women should have equal rights to them too.

The one thing that I will never get my head around is the constant battle between feminism and those who oppose it. As the utterly amazing Malala Yousafzai said, 'We cannot all succeed when half of us are held back.'  Why would anyone want to fight against something that would benefit us all?

  1. Brilliant post. I agree wholeheartedly with everything you said.

  2. Spot on! Feminism doesn't have a certain look, you can wear short skirts, you can enjoy a compliment from a boy, you can be whomever you want to be. Also i'm so glad I can wear pink and glitter and be a feminist because a world without pink and sparkles is not a happy place. ;) xx

    1. Exactly!! That is most definitely true! x

  3. I completely agree. Modern day feminism is just about being a woman. It's a natural state.
