Charlestown | A Cornish Road Trip

For our holiday this year, we decided to go for a more budget-friendly option and settled on a road trip around beautiful Cornwall.  Our plan was to do a mixture of camping and stays at B&Bs, to keep costs down, but also because Kyle has a small obsession with camping and all the kit that goes along with it.

After six long hours of driving from Sheffield, we arrived in our first location which was the small and quaint Charlestown.  We were aiming for a campsite, but we hadn't booked and therefore inevitably had no availability, fortunately there was a gorgeous pub called The Rashleigh Arms with a room free.  We bundled ourselves and our stuff into the rather lovely room, complete with window seat, before heading out to have a little explore before dinner.
I have a bad habit of trying to plan everything down to the very last detail, so I tried really hard just to go with the flow for this trip.  Due to this, I had no idea what to expect from Charlestown as we had only decided that morning that it was to be our first stop, however I was so happy to find it such a sweet little village with huge pirate-worthy ships, a tiny harbour and pretty shingle beaches.  We mooched around, then skimmed stones until the sun started to set, before finding seats in the nearest pub for the most scrumptious fish and chips and some obligatory cider.

The next morning we filled our stomachs full of delicious cooked breakfast to set us up for a day exploring The Lost Gardens of Heligan, only a short drive away.  Although we were only really there for a night, I fell for the charm of Charlestown and despite the initial drizzle, it certainly set a perfect tone for the rest of the trip.

  3. What a gorgeous looking little place! I love the south on England and can't wait to explore it more someday. We had plans last summer to do a road trip but the plans fell through at the last minute, so we only managed a little two day get away to Plymouth :)
