February Florals

As with the vast majority of my blog content, the inspiration for this post came to me whilst on a walk.  I had taken Doug to the Sheffield Botanical Gardens to mix up our walks a bit, but whilst there I was surprised by quite how many plants were in bloom at this bitterly cold time of year.  The flowers weren't in any great quantity, but dotted around the gardens in small patches of vivid colour; I was so glad I'd brought my camera!

There were trees with blossom in white and pink and others were bright with reds and yellows.  The ground was dotted with white snowdrops and bright blue and yellow irises were scattered under trees and so many more.

I was so pleased I'd thought to come here on this day, a place that I wouldn't have normally thought to explore in the winter months.  It was a different kind of beautiful compared to the bright, bustling gardens of the summer.  The overcast sky cast a subdued light and despite still being somewhat bare, it was certainly still beautiful.
This time of the year can be hard for a lot of people, with the weather being cold and unpredictable and the days still particularly short.  I'm no exception, so seeing these bright and bold florals, albeit sparse, was just what I needed as a pick-me-up (and Doug agreed too).

  2. These are beautiful. I agree that the Winter can be really difficult - it's bitterly cold here in Cork and constantly raining (with just enough sunshine to tempt me) - but it can be beautiful, too, if you just spend a bit more time exploring instead of just writing off the season. x

  3. Lovely photos! I saw blossom and daffodils last week as apparently they're coming out earlier this year :) Irises are so bold and striking, I often buy them for my Mam. Doug is so cute!
