Vegan Banana Nut Protein Shake

As I have previously mentioned in another post, I have made some big changes to my eating habits and exercise over the past few months.  I have been trying improve my diet and fitness for longer than that and still have a long way to go, but this year has been the first time I've really taken it all seriously.

I now regularly go to the gym and have been going on actual runs outdoors, which for me is a big step due to a lack of confidence.

I most commonly have a protein shake post-workout.  I have never liked the standard protein shake powders, as I find they have an unpleasant chemical/artificial taste.  I've tried out a load of my own recipes, however this one is definitely my current favourite.

It is a creamy banana and almond milk shake with vanilla, almond butter and chia seeds, all of which adds up to about 15g of protein.
Ingredients

250ml unsweetened almond milk
1 large or 2 small frozen bananas
1 tbsp sprouted rice protein powder
1 tsp chia seeds
1 tsp almond butter (or your favourite nut butter)
1 tsp vanilla extract

Method

Add ingredients to blender and blend until smooth.  Simple!
The frozen banana changes the texture to one that is very similar to a milkshake, which is all the better as it is deliciously thick and creamy.  I've found having one of these shakes stops me from snacking on unhealthy food after I've exercised, plus helps prevent the pain from lactic acid build-up the next day.  The main thing for me however, is that it tastes like I'm having something far less healthy than it is!

  2. This sounds delicious! I love making smoothies and nicecream but sometimes I accidently put too much nut-milk/soymilk in mine and it's a milkshake haha!
